520 _aThe book titled Higher Education in Bangladesh: Prospects and Challenges (4th Edition) projects a comprehensive picture of higher education in Bangladesh both in public and private universities. It also expounds the role, functions, current activities and existing challenges and prospects of higher education and future action plans of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh and the Government as well. The background, goals, objectives and importance of higher education have also broadly expounded in this book. Simultaneously policy drawbacks and recommendations are proposed for further improvement of quality education and cutting edge research with a view to enhancing and enriching the structural management of higher education in Bangladesh. To foster and promote higher education in both public and private channel, public-private partnership (PPP) programs should be initiated in higher education sector. This book also expounds different models of PPP and its potentials which can serve to fill the gap in the higher education sector thus creating efficient human capital. The book also examines the trend of demand for problems and issues of contemporary higher education in Bangladesh using historical-empirical method. The book also represents a comprehensive account of higher education in the private universities around the country since its inception in 1992. It has opened up new horizons of higher education at the private levels. At present, there are 51 Public and 108 Private Universities in the country. Quantity without quality cannot ensure the main objectives of higher education. In this connection, various indicators and paradigms have been expounded in this book with a view to achieving the goals of quality education and research in line with SGD-4 and 4IR. Basically, the book has been written as a reference one for researchers, academics, policy makers, planners, general readers and students as well.
